IZMIR (AA) - September 24, 2012 - Turkey plans to buy the Greek consulate building which is for sale in Turkey's western city of Izmir.

Mayor of Konak, central town of the city, Hakan Tartan told AA correspondent on Monday that they would like to buy the historic building that Greece is selling due to the financial crisis in that country.
Tartan said they would like to bring a boutique museum to life in that building that could be named "1922 Izmir (Smyrna) Friendship and Peace Museum". "We can exhibit the pictures and clothing of all Turkish, Greek and Jewish citizens and tell about their customs, neighborhood and friendship," said the mayor and added that they should promote peace rather than war in a city where religions and cultures coexist with love.
Hakan Tartan added that they would also like to buy another ancient building that served as the German consulate in the past, and convert it into a Turkish-German Culture and Arts Museum.
