Yekta Sarac, chairman of Turkey's Higher Education Board (YOK), has advised young students to choose wisely before enrolling themselves at fancy sounding programs at universities in the country.
Sarac said that the students should decide about their choices by July 14 and should refrain from falling for what he called traps under the garb of dazzling terms such as "profession of the future".
"They must be careful about these terms and I think it is more important that they opt for science fields instead of chasing such dubious terms," he added.
Sarac also urged students to pick programs that they really wanted to study.
He asked students to consider universities that offer double majors programs and that give opportunities to international students. He underlined that studying at a university was not only about learning about a specific field but it also gave social skills, which too were important to succeed in life.
The YOK board supervises universities in Turkey. More than two million students took the Transition to Higher Education Examination (YGS) in Turkey on March 24. About a million high school students also took the five-part Undergraduate Placement Examination (LYS), which is the second round of exams in the new university entrance system in Turkey, held between June 13 and 21.
The YGS exams are held every March in the country. Those who pass the YGS are then entitled to take LYS exams in the Turkish education system.
