Turkey's highest court is set to make a ruling next week on a law on the election of the Turkish president.
The Constitutional Court will debate next week on Friday an appeal the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) made in March, asking the top court to cancel the law, which it said was a breach of the constitution.
The law reduces presidential term to five years from seven years, and it introduces popular vote to elect the president. The law says one person can only be elected to the top Turkish office twice.
The law also says the incumbent president, Abdullah Gul, who will be last parliamentry elected president, will remain at the post for seven years until next presidential election in 2014.
A rapporteur with the top court has expressed an advisory opinion that Gul should remain in office until 2014.
