VAN, Turkey
Supporters of the terrorist PKK group set ablaze a fitness center in Turkey’s eastern province of Van last night, said the Ministry of Youth and Sports provincial director Tuesday.
Van Youth and Sports Director Nevzat Inanc said that in the attack, which took place on Monday night in the city center, the fitness center suffered considerable damage.
PKK supporters came to the area outside the fitness center, damaged its security cameras, broke its windows, and poured gasoline on the floor, setting the building on fire.
Firefighters came to the scene quickly and got the fire under control.
According to security sources, no one was injured.
Damage to the property is estimated at nearly $70,000.
"I harshly condemn this attack. The fitness center was used for youth sports activities. However, we will rebuild it as soon as possible," Inanc said.
The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and EU -- resumed its 30-year armed campaign against Turkey in July last year.
Since then, more than 350 Turkish security personnel have been martyred and thousands of terrorists killed.
