An Istanbul court on Thursday remanded a French citizen in custody on drug charges including trafficking and possession, according to a judicial source.

Yannick Michel Brefort, who was traveling from Amsterdam to Istanbul, was apprehended by Turkish police earlier on Thursday at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport, the source said on the condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to media.

Narcotics officers detected a significant quantity of drugs hidden at the bottom of a suitcase belonging to Brefort during X-ray scanning.

The police team confiscated 3,917 ecstasy pills, over two kilograms (4.4 pounds) of cannabis, 12,500 synthetic LSD pills, which, still according to the source, were packaged in nylon bags in the suitcase.
