European Commissioner for Enlargement Stefan Fule supported Turkish President Abdullah Gul's urging call for common sense to ease Taksim Gezi Park protests.

In a statement made on his Twitter account Fule said "I am concerned about the images in Taksim Square in Istanbul. I support the call for restraint from President Gul."

President Gul issued a statement about the ongoing events in Taksim Gezi Park saying "The biggest responsibility that falls on us about the ongoing events in Taksim Square which have reached a point that makes us all worried is to have more maturity so that these events cool down.”

Gul underscored the importance of listening to different thoughts and point of views with common sense in a democratic society not to abuse protests.
