CAIRO

Interim government of Egypt prolonged detention period for Turkish TRT television network correspondent Metin Turan, who was detained reporting Friday's standoff from inside Fath Mosque in Cairo's Ramses Square.

Egyptian Public Prosecution Office said Tuesday the detention period for Turan was extended for a further 15 days.

Turkish Embassy in Cairo objected to the decision of prosecution with a petition of objection and attached documents stating he was on duty at the mosque during the standoff.

The prosecution will make a decision Tuesday afternoon following the examination of documents provided by the Turkish Embassy.
