ANKARA
One person drowned and two others rescued when a boat carrying refugees sank off Turkey’s western coast Tuesday.
The Turkish Coast Guard found the refugees, who were trying to go to Greece, in Enez coast of Edirne province, the Governor's Office said.
Those rescued were taken to hospital.
According to the International Organization for Migration's (IOM) report, almost 3,000 refugees have died crossing the Mediterranean Sea so far this year, including 246 in the waters between Greece and Turkey.
505,693 refugees have arrived in Europe by sea this year, most arriving in Greece, according to the group.
