British army reservists will be called on permanent duty in case of a no-deal Brexit in support of the government’s contingency plan, said a statement by a minister of state.

Mark Lancaster, a minister at the Defense Ministry, said they are “committed to assisting the Cabinet Office coordinated work program to ensure that there are effective and proportionate contingency plans in place to mitigate the potential immediate impacts leaving the EU, under a ‘No Deal’ scenario, might have on the welfare, health and security of U.K. citizens and economic stability of the U.K.”

“A particularly important role may be the planned reinforcement of Regional Points of Command, to enable their 24/7 operation and resilience,” it said.

The reservists will also be deployed upon to “support the implementation of contingency plans developed by other government agencies.”

Following a huge defeat of Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit plan in the House of Commons, a no-deal Brexit possibility is higher than ever.

The call-out order for reservists “shall take effect from the beginning of 10 February 2019 and shall cease to have effect at the end of 9 February 2020.”

The U.K. is set to leave the EU with or without a deal on March 29, 2019.
