English Premier League club West Ham United broke a club record to sign French forward Sebastien Haller on Wednesday.

"West Ham United is delighted to announce the arrival of prolific French striker Sebastien Haller, the Club’s new record signing," the London club said on website.

"The highly sought-after forward, who turned 25 in June, joins the Hammers on a five-year deal with an option of a further 12 months for an undisclosed fee from German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt," it added.

A British daily, the Guardian said that West Ham paid £45 million (roughly $56 million) transfer fee to buy Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt.

The previous transfer fee record of West Ham was £33.5 million paid for Brazilian winger Felipe Anderson in July 2018.

Last season Haller scored 20 goals in 41 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt.
