UEFA to decide on fines imposed on Serbia and Albania

NYON, Switzerland

UEFA's appellate panel will rule on Tuesday on appeals submitted by the football associations of Serbia and Albania against penalties imposed on them by UEFA.

UEFA, or the Union of European Football Associations, is the governing body of football in Europe.

The match between the two national teams played on Oct. 14 in the Serbian capital Belgrade was interrupted in the 44th minute by a drone flying over the stadium carrying a map of "Greater Albania," which included parts of Serbia.

Serbian fans stormed the pitch in response and attacked Albanian players.

Before this incident, however, Serbian fans from the stands constantly chanted against and insulted the visiting players.

UEFA's control, ethics and disciplinary committee interrupted the match.

This resulted in a 3-0 score line in favor of Serbia, as the representatives of Albania did not want to return to the field to continue the match after the incident.

Serbia was also fined three demerit points and played two domestic games without the presence of spectators, due to their failure in the organization of the Albania match.

Finally, both associations were fined 100,000 euros.
