ANKARA

Türkiye won 38 medals, including nine gold, at the 2023 European Games that concluded on Sunday.

Türkiye was represented by 193 athletes in 19 disciplines in Krakow-Malopolska 2023 in Poland, finishing ninth out of 48 nations in the medal standings.

The Turkish team won nine gold, nine silver, and 20 bronze medals to set its own record in the European Games history.

In the inaugural 2015 European Games in Azerbaijan's capital of Baku, Türkiye won 29 medals and then secured 15 others in Minsk, Belarusian capital, in 2019.

Buse Naz Cakiroglu (Women's Boxing), Busenaz Surmeneli (Women's Boxing), Emine Arslan (Women's Kickboxing), Eray Samdan (Men's Karate), Gulistan Turan (Women's Muaythai), Bediha Tacyildiz (Women's Muaythai), Ismail Keles (Men's Shooting), Sude Yaren Uzuncavdar (Women's Taekwondo), and Nafia Kus (Women's Taekwondo) were the Turkish gold medalists in the 2023 games.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan tweeted to congratulate all the Turkish athletes on their achievements at the European Games.

Italy topped the medal standings with 100 medals, including 35 gold, 26 silver, and 39 bronze.

The next European Games are set to take place in 2027, but the host nation has yet to be named.​​​​​​​
