Turkish women's wrestling team top 2022 European Championships

ANKARA

The Turkish women's national wrestling team on Friday were named the 2022 European champions in Budapest, the country's first European championship in seniors.

Turkiye clocked up 140 points in total in the Hungarian capital to rank first among women's wrestling teams.

The Turkish women earned two gold, one silver, and one bronze medals in Budapest.

Evin Demirhan Yavuz (50 kg) and Yasemin Adar (76 kg) won gold medals each for Turkiye.

Yavuz, 26, defeated her Bulgarian opponent Miglena Georgieva Selishka 4-2 by VFA (victory by fall) to win her first European gold medal on Thursday.

Adar, 30, had her fifth European title after beating Estonia's Epp Maee 3 - 1.

Another Turkish wrestler Buse Tosun Cavusoglu (72 kg) won silver, and her compatriot Bediha Gun (55 kg) returned home with a bronze medal.

Team Ukraine were second in Budapest with 135 points.

Bulgaria came third in women's wrestling as they bagged 110 points.

The competitions in women's category have ended but the 2022 European Championships will go through until April 3.
