ISTANBUL

Dursun Ozbek has been elected Turkish sports club Galatasaray's 36th chairman in the club’s general assembly.

Dursun Ozbek, 66, easily beat his rivals Turgay Kiran and Ahmet Ozdogan by obtaining 2800 of the 3842 votes cast during the club’s general meeting on Saturday at the historical Galatasaray High School.

Other candidates Turgay Kiran received 534 votes while Ahmet Ozdogan had 442. Some 66 votes were declared invalid by the committee.

All eyes in Turkey will be on the critical Galatasaray - Besiktas football derby at Turk Telekom Arena in Istanbul on Sunday.

With a victory, league leaders Galatasaray can clinch their 20th Spor Toto Super League title in week 33, but only if second-place Fenerbahce lose or tie Monday against Istanbul Basaksehir, which rank fourth. Meanwhile, visitors Besiktas fight for the second place to qualify for the Champions League.

There are two weeks left to play in the Turkish Super League.
