Turkey beats Montenegro in FIBA European qualifiers

ISTANBUL

Turkey team defeated Montenegro 79-69 Friday in the first game of the second-round of the 2019 FIBA European Qualifiers.

The Group I game in the Turkish capital, Ankara, was dominated from start to finish by the Turks as they built a lead and finished the half up 45-37.

Cedi Osman was Turkey’s top scorer with 18 points, followed by Ersan Ilyasova with 17 and Semih Erden put in 16. Montenegro's Bojan Dubljevic led all scores with 22 points.

In other matches in the group, Ukraine beat Spain 76-65 and Latvia defeated Slovenia 85-74.

Turkey qualified for the second-round with 10 points, pushing the team to second place in the group.

Turkey will now face Slovenia on Sept. 17.

The top three teams from the group will qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 to be held Aug. 31 - Sept. 15 in China.
