The Golden State Warriors won against the Cleveland Cavaliers 96-82 in a Sunday NBA game as the winning team's shooting guard Klay Thompson returned to floor after a couple of devastating injuries that lasted for at least two-and-half years.

Thompson played his first NBA game in 941 days as the 31-year-old suffered from a torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) in his left knee in the 2019 NBA finals against the Toronto Raptors.

The Canadian team won the series 4-2 to claim their first ever NBA championship.

And then Thompson was out of action for a ruptured right Achilles tendon to miss the 2020-21 NBA season.

On Sunday, Thompson scored 17 points for the Warriors in San Francisco's Chase Center to contribute to a home win.

Golden State superstar Stephen Curry led his team, clocking up 28 points.

Kevon Looney was dominant under the rim as he took 18 rebounds for the Warriors.

Cavaliers forward Lamar Stevens racked up 17 points to be his team's highest scorer at Chase Center.

Cleveland point guard Rajon Rondo scored 15 points for the Eastern Conference team.

The Warriors are now in the first position in the Western Conference standings with 30 wins.

They lost nine others in the 2021-22 season.

Golden State were chased by second-place Phoenix Suns.

The Suns have the same form.

Sixth in the East standings, the Cleveland Cavaliers are going 22-18.
