Italian teen Pilato sets new 50m breaststroke world record

ISTANBUL

Italy's Benedetta Pilato broke the women’s 50 meters breaststroke world record in the semifinals of the European Swimming Championships on Saturday.

"The Italian swam a 29.30, shaving a significant 0.20 seconds off Lilly King's 2017 record of 29.50," the official website of the Olympic Games said.

The 16-year-old swimmer also broke the World Junior record, Championship record, Italian National record, and European record in the Hungarian capital Budapest.
