Leicester City player Abdul Fatawu will miss the rest of the season following a "serious injury,” manager Steve Cooper confirmed on Thursday.

"It's not good, it's a serious injury. He's had an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury which is going to rule him out for the rest of the season. It’s a real blow, first and foremost for him," Cooper said in a statement.

"He’s a young player and having an ACL injury can be quite common, it’s part of football, but it’s still a serious injury. For it to happen at a young age is a blow for him and a blow for us," he added.

Fatawu, 20, suffered the injury during Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola last week.

In 56 games for the Foxes so far, the Ghanaian winger has racked up seven goals and 15 assists.

Leicester City currently are 15th in the English Premier League standings with 10 points after 11 games.
