ANKARA
Galatasaray secured a narrow 1-0 win against Istanbulspor in a Trendyol Super Lig match on Tuesday as Argentine forward Mauro Icardi scored the winner.
The Lions' Icardi took a shot in the area to send the ball to the bottom corner in the 42nd minute at Ataturk Olympic Stadium.
Before the winning goal, Galatasaray missed a tricky penalty kick.
Galatasaray were awarded a penalty in the 35th minute as Icardi was fouled in the box. Turkish forward Kerem Akturkoglu took an indirect penalty, passing the ball to Icardi, which is a rare habit in football.
Akturkoglu and Icardi tried something different from the penalty spot, but the Argentine star, who received a low pass, missed an easy chance.
Galatasaray top the Super Lig table with 16 points in six matches.
Fenerbahce are in second place with 15 points, but they have a game in hand.
In the next fixture, Galatasaray will host MKE Ankaragucu on Saturday in Istanbul.
Fenerbahce will play against RAMS Basaksehir in a home match on Thursday.
