Football: Galatasaray getting over derby loss in Super Lig

ISTANBUL

Galatasaray got over the derby loss against Turkish Spor Toto Super Lig title contenders Besiktas last week with a victory against Akhisar Belediyespor 3-2 at the Turk Telekom Arena, Istanbul on Sunday.

Galatasaray's offensive line was on duty against Akhisar, with Turkish striker Umut Bulut, German forward Lukas Podolski and Turkish winger Yasin Oztekin scoring for the Istanbul team.

Visitors Akhisar Belediyespor's goals were scored by Cameroonian midfielder Landry N'Guemo and Colombian striker Hugo Rodallega.

Having a narrow win at home, Galatasaray, who raised their points to 29, climbed to the third spot in the league table.

Meanwhile, another member of the “Big Three”, Fenerbahce won against Genclerbirligi 1-0 away in Turkish capital Ankara. Brazilian striker Fernandao's goal in the first half brought the glory for Fenerbahce at the 19 Mayis Stadium.

The victory against Genclerbirligi brought Fenerbahce the lead in the league as Yellow Canaries raised their points to 37.

The other Istanbul giants, Besiktas are aiming to take back the top spot in standings by winning against Osmanlispor on Monday evening in Ankara.

Besiktas midfielder Tolgay Arslan sustained a ligament injury and is out until late December.

Having 35 points in the league, the Black Eagles are in the second spot.

The match at the Osmanli Stadium begins at 8 p.m. local time (1800GMT).
