ANKARA

Former Fenerbahce player John Leshiba Moshoeu has passed away.

Having spent most of his career in Turkey, the former South African footballer died at the age of 49 in his home country, his former club Kaizer Chiefs said on their Twitter account on Tuesday.

The club reportedly offered their condolences to Moshoeu's family, fans and the football community.

Moshoeu had been fighting cancer.

Having been capped for South Africa for 73 times, Moshoeu played for many Turkish football clubs including Genclerbirligi, Kocaelispor, Fenerbahce and Bursaspor between 1993 and 2003.

Apart from his 10-year spell in Turkey, he played for South African teams Giant Blackpool, Kaizer Chiefs, AmaZulu and Alexandra United.
