Diego Schwartzman crashes out of Australian Open

ISTANBUL

In a shock result, Argentine tennis player Diego Schwartzman was knocked out of the Australian Open on Friday.

Russia’s Aslan Karatsev, ranked 114th, beat World No. 8 Schwartzman in straight sets – 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 – in their third-round tie in Melbourne's John Cain Arena.

Felix Auger-Aliassime, 20, beat his Canadian counterpart Denis Shapovalov 7-5, 7-5, 6-3 to qualify for the fourth stage.

Another Canadian, Milos Raonic, also progressed after a 7-6, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 win over Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics.

In the women’s singles, World No. 2 Simona Halep breezed past Russian Veronika Kudermetova 6-1, 6-3 in a game that last just over 75 minutes.
