MELBOURNE
Reigning Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka has beaten world number five Kei Nishikori 3-0 and qualified for the semi-final in the tournament held in Melbourne on Wednesday.
In the morning session, world number four Wawrinka met last year's U.S. Open finalist Nishikori. Swiss player Wawrinka took the victory after winning the sets, 6-3, 6-4 and 7-6.
Meanwhile, in the women's category 19-year-old Madison Keys encountered seven-time Grand Slam winner Venus Williams, ranked in 18th place.
Keys beat the 34-year-old Williams 2-1 and managed to advance to semi-final stage of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career.
In another quarter-final match, five-times winner Serena Williams played against last year's Australian Open finalist, Dominika Cibulkova.
World number one Williams – dominating the sets – won the match 2-0, advancing to meet Keys in the semi-final.
