MELBOURNE
U.S. tennis player Serena Williams has defeated Maria Sharapova in two sets in the final Saturday to claim her sixth Australian Open title.
The Association of Tennis Professionals, or ATP, number one ranked tennis player in the world easily dominated the 27-year-old number in the first set, 6-3.
The second set was more disputed but, in the end, Williams won the tiebreak 7-5.
At 33 years old, Williams has claimed her 19th grand slam title, moving past legends Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert.
Sharapova, 27, has five grand slam titles to her name but the Russian has not defeated Williams since 2004.
Serbian Novak Djokovic faces Andy Murray from the U.K. on Sunday in the men's fınal.
The Australian Open is the first of the four major Grand Slam tournaments of the year.
