LUSAKA, Zambia 

Botswana sensation Busang Collen Kebinatshipi made history Thursday as his country’s first-ever men's world champion in the 400 meters at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Kebinatshipi stormed to a national record of 43.53 seconds and moved to 10th place on the world's all-time list, holding off Trinidad and Tobago's Jereem Richards, who won silver with his national record of 43.72.

Kebinatshipi was joined on the podium by his compatriot, Bayapo Ndori, who clinched bronze in a time of 44.20.

Another Botswanan athlete, Letsile Tebogo, who won Africa's only gold medal at the 2024 Summer Games, sailed to the 200m finals after a second-place finish of 19.95 in the semifinals.
