Norwegian forward returns to action to score 50 goals in 50 league games
Borussia Dortmund took a 3-1 road win against Wolfsburg in a Saturday German Bundesliga match, with the victors' Norwegian star Erling Haaland returning from a hip injury to score a second-half goal.
Wolfsburg took an early lead at the Volkswagen Arena as the home team's Dutch forward Wout Weghorst scored a close-range goal with his chest after a right-wing cross made by Ridle Baku.
Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus was fouled in the box as the visitors were awarded a penalty.
Emre Can converted the penalty successfully in the 35th minute.
The first half ended 1-1.
Borussia Dortmund came back in the 55th minute as Donyell Malen fired outside the area to beat Wolfsburg goalkeeper Pavao Pervan.
Haaland was a substitute in the match, returning to action from a hip flexor injury that lasted over a month.
The Norwegian forward entered the game in minute 73 to make it 3-1 eight minutes later.
In the 81st minute of the match, he tapped the ball with his left foot after a cross whipped by Julian Brandt.
Haaland scored his 50th Bundesliga goal in 50 appearances since January 2020.
At 21 years, four months, and six days of age, he became the youngest and quickest Bundesliga player to reach this threshold, the German league confirmed.
This season, Haaland scored 10 goals in seven league matches.
Title contenders Borussia Dortmund reached the top of the league with 30 points in 13 matches and are in fierce competition with second-place Bayern Munich.
Bayern Munich are currently playing against Arminia Bielefeld at the Allianz Arena.
Wolfsburg were down to the seventh spot in the league with 20 points.
