A Spanish criminal court Wednesday sentenced Bayern Munich's French defender Lucas Hernandez on Wednesday for failing to comply with a restraining order, according to media reports.

Criminal Court number 32 in Madrid ordered Hernandez's imprisonment and summoned the 25-year-old to court on Oct. 19 to choose the prison where he will serve, said the AS newspaper.

The then-Atletico Madrid player Hernandez was arrested in February 2017 on a charge of an altercation with his wife on a street.

She was hospitalized for injuries following the fight.

Both were sentenced to 31 days of community service and had a restraining order for six months.

But Hernandez was arrested four years ago in Madrid for violating the court's order when the couple decided to go on a honeymoon vacation in Miami.

The court sentenced Hernandez to six months in prison in December 2019 for breaking the restraining order.

He filed an appeal but that was denied.

Hernandez's lawyers were said to appeal to a superior court.

Hernandez joined Bayern Munich from Atletico Madrid in 2019.

He helped Bayern win the UEFA Champions League in 2020.

Hernandez won the 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2021 UEFA Nations League with France.
