Basaksehir stretch lead to 8 points in Turkish league

ISTANBUL

Medipol Basaksehir stretched its lead in Turkey’s top football league to eight points after beating Akhisar 3-0 on Sunday.

With the latest win, the league leaders improved to 44 points and had an eight-point lead in the Turkish league after runner-up Galatasaray drew Alanyaspor 1-1.

Basaksehir had a clean start to the second half of the Turkey’s Super Toto Super Lig with three wins in a row.

Reigning champions Galatasaray stayed at the second place with 36 points after Saturday’s drew with Alanyaspor in an away match, they are now eight points behind Basaksehir.

Also on Sunday evening, Besiktas defeated Antalyaspor 6-2. They are at third place with 33 points.

Fenerbahce defeated Goztepe 2-0 on Friday evening to move away from the relegation zone, improving to 23 points.

The struggling Yellow Canaries have been suffering the worst season in history, with only four wins in 19 outings.

Fenerbahce are now in 12th place, only six points from the bottom of the league, and a distant 21 points away from the top spot.
