Atletico Madrid advanced to the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, clinching a 3-1 win against Porto in a hot-tempered match in Portugal on Tuesday.

The Spanish club's Uruguayan star Luis Suarez made an early exit after suffering an injury and broke down in tears on the bench.

Atletico Madrid's French forward Antoine Griezmann scored an open goal at the far post after a corner kick to break the deadlock in the 56th minute at Estadio do Dragao.

The visitors scored consecutive goals near the end of the match as Angel Correa doubled the lead for Atletico Madrid in the 90th minute with a low finish.

The Spanish team's midfielder Rodrigo De Paul scored from close range in the 92nd minute, sealing the 3-1 win.

Porto were awarded a penalty after Mario Hermoso fouled Porto forward Evanilson in the 95th minute.

Sergio Oliveira converted the penalty kick successfully in stoppage time, which meant a consolation goal for Porto.

Three players were sent off during the match.

Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Carrasco and Porto pair Wendell and Agustin Marchesin were shown red cards after the Spanish team took the 1-0 lead.

In the 67th minute, Carrasco was brandished a straight red card after grabbing his opponent Otavio's neck.

Just a few minutes later, Porto left-back Wendell was sent off after elbowing Atletico Madrid's Matheus Cunha.
