Spanish tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz won the 2022 US Open men's singles title Sunday and claimed his maiden Grand Slam title and world No. 1 ranking.

Alcaraz, 19, beat his fifth-seeded Norwegian opponent Casper Ruud with sets of 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 at New York City's Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The Spanish teen drew first blood, taking the opening set 6-4 in the final.

But Ruud, 23, tied the match with an impressive 6-2 set.

With massive efforts, Alcaraz took the third set to the tiebreak after it ended 6-6.

Alcaraz won the tiebreaker 7-1 and led the clash 2-1 against Ruud.

Confident in the fourth set, Alcaraz made it 6-3, which meant he won his first-ever major title.

Alcaraz was handed the championship trophy and $2.6 million in prize money.

Meanwhile, Ruud has become the second seed in men's singles and returned home with $1.3 million.

Ruud previously reached the final in the 2022 French Open (Roland Garros) in June.
