Daniil Medvedev won his first Grand Slam title, defeating world no. 1 Novak Djokovic in the 2021 US Open final on Sunday.

Daniil Medvedev, 25, started his singles Grand Slam journey with Wimbledon in 2016 where he was eliminated by British tennis star player Marcus Willis in the fourth qualifier round.

Since then, he has been regularly participating in Grand Slams and reached his first Grand Slam final in the 2019 US Open. After a breathtaking match against Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal, he lost his first-ever Grand Slam final.

Russian player was not able to reach the final in the 2020 US Open as he failed to pass Dominic Thiem of Austria in the semifinals.

However, the world no. 2 did not have to wait long for his next Grand Slam final as he reached the final again in the very first Grand Slam of 2021, the Australian Open.

He took on Djokovic in his second Grand Slam final at Melbourne Park. Medvedev returned empty-handed again as the Serbian star claimed the 2021 Australian Open title.

The second Grand Slam of 2021, the French Open, started well enough for the world no. 2 but he could not pass Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece in the quarterfinals.

After his disappointing elimination to Hubert Hurkacz of Poland in the fourth round of the 2021 Wimbledon, Medvedev once again faced tennis superstar Djokovic in the final of the 2021 US Open.

After a memorable performance, Medvedev won his maiden title winning the final against world no.1 with sets of 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 at New York City's Arthur Ashe Stadium.
