At least two people were killed and four others injured in an overnight Russian missile attack in the city of Zaporizhzhia, southeastern Ukraine, local officials said early Wednesday.

“Search and rescue operations are ongoing at the site … At this time, it is known about two dead and four injured. Three more people are considered missing,” Anatoliy Kurtev, secretary of the Zaporizhzhia City Council, said in a statement on Telegram.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also commented on the attack on Telegram, saying it targeted a residential five-story building and destroyed eight apartments.

“My condolences to everyone whose family and friends died … I thank everyone who does not remain indifferent and helps us overcome it,” Zelenskyy added.

Meanwhile, an earlier statement by the Ukrainian State Emergency Service said 50 residents of the building were evacuated by emergency workers.

Russian officials did not immediately comment on the strike.

The ongoing Ukraine war, which Russia started in February 2022, has killed over 9,800 civilians and wounded more than 17,900, according to UN figures.
