MOSCOW

The Moscow Sheremetyevo International Airport announced Tuesday that an air defense system was deployed amid Ukraine's drone attacks.

"To ensure a high level of flight safety, the Raccoon radar and air defense system has been installed at Sheremetyevo Airport,” it said in a statement. “The complex is designed for automatic detection of low-flying targets (including small-class unmanned aerial vehicles, UAVs), their verification by video image and subsequent counteraction through jamming.”

The Raccoon-SD complex uses Kaspersky Lab software with artificial intelligence, which allows it to distinguish and classify objects by type -- bird, UAV, airplane, person or vehicles, including UAVs flying in radio silence mode.

The system will not hinder the work of flight radio support and communication systems of the airport, said the statement.

Ukraine has significantly increased the use of drones as they are very difficult to detect for existing radar systems due to their small size.

Kyiv managed to carry out a drone attack on the Kremlin -- considered one of the most secure places in Russia.
