Three people were killed and 29 injured in an overnight Russian air attack on Kyiv, Ukrainian authorities said on Saturday.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, 36 missiles and some 600 drones were launched last night at the capital.

“As of now, dozens of wounded and three dead are known. My condolences to the family and friends,” he said on Telegram.

Separately, the mayor of Kyiv said that by the time of his statement, authorities knew of 29 people injured, including 19 who had to be hospitalized.

The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that it carried out a mass airstrike overnight but said that it targeted only military objectives.

It said the strike was in response to "Ukraine’s terrorist attacks on civilian objects.”

It also claimed that Kyiv launched an overnight air raid on energy facilities in Russia.

Volgograd region authorities said five people, including two children were injured in the attack.
