The Russian Defense Ministry said on Wednesday that 1,026 Ukrainian soldiers, including 162 officers and 47 servicewomen, surrendered yesterday in the city of Mariupol.

All the military personnel are part of the 36th Marine Brigade, the ministry’s spokesman Igor Konashenkov said at a morning press briefing in Moscow.

He said: “151 wounded Ukrainian servicemen of the 36th Marine Brigade received primary medical care on the spot, after which they were all taken to the Mariupol city hospital for treatment.”

The Russian army continued its special military operation, Konashenkov said, adding that over the last night, two large ammunition depots, and four combat helicopters – two Mi-24 and two Mi-8 – were destroyed with sea- and air-based high-precision missiles.

The aviation hit 46 Ukrainian military objects, including two command points, a radar, two multiple rocket launchers and four areas of concentration of military equipment, while the air defense systems downed two unmanned aerial vehicles, he said.

The Strategic Rocket Forces and artillery hit 693 targets – 676 areas of concentration of personnel and equipment, 11 control points, and five warehouses of logistics, Konashenkov noted.

“In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 130 aircraft, 103 helicopters, 244 anti-aircraft missile systems, 447 unmanned aerial vehicles, 2,169 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 243 multiple rocket launchers, 931 field artillery guns and mortars, as well as 2,076 units of special military vehicles have been destroyed,” he said.

At least 1,892 civilians have been killed and 2,558 injured in Ukraine since Russia declared its "special military operation" on Feb. 24, according to UN estimates, with the true figure feared to be much higher.

More than 4.6 million Ukrainians have fled to other countries, with millions more internally displaced, according to the UN refugee agency.
