Thousands of young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina are unemployed, claims Erol Mujanovic, author of the study “Unemployment of the youth in BiH – Current situation, challenges and recommendations”, AA reports.
“At the beginning of our work for this study, couple of months ago, youth unemployment was up 58 per cent. Today we can say that we have the highest unemployment rate in Europe. In practice, these figures are saying that out of three young persons two are without job,” Mujanovic said while presenting results of the study in Sarajevo.
The study gives recommendations to fight unemployment through building new skills among those who are looking for jobs.
“We have great example from the city of Gorazde where today we almost have nobody without job. It happened after two big investors came and started with their business,” Mujanovic said.
However, these figures from Bosnia are not much bigger than those from the rest of the region.
“If we look at the unemployment rate in our neighbourhood, we will see that figures are similar. Serbia has the rate of 50 per cent, Macedonia 40, as well as Montenegro or Albania,” professor Sanela Cekis-Basic commented on the study results.
