US, Russian and UN officials will convene on June 5 to prepare for a proposed peace conference for the Syrian regime and dissident members.
According to a UN statement, "We can confirm that on 5 June 2013 in Geneva, US, Russian and UN officials will hold a three-way meeting to further the preparations for the international conference on Syria envisioned under the U.S.-Russian initiative."
UN and Arab League Special Envoy on Syria Lakhdar Brahimi would be representing the UN during the meeting, it was added.
State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said on Thursday that US Under Secretary of State Wendy Sherman and US Assistant Secretary of State Elizabeth Jones would represent the US during the meeting on Syria.
Moreoveri Psaki noted, the meeting was agreed during last week's talks which were held between US Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
