United Nations (UN) General Assembly on Wednesday adopted a resolution on Syria.
107 countries voted in favor of the resolution while 12 voted against. 59 countries abstained.
With the acceptance of the resolution, the third decision on Syria was accepted at the UN General Assembly. Other two resolutions were adopted on February 16, 2012 and August 3, 2012 with the support of more than 130 countries.
While Wednesday's resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly is not binding, it carries importance as far as displaying the views of the international community on Syria and increasing pressure on the Damascus regime.
Today's UN resolution also referred to the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces.
The resolution adopted on Wednesday carries articles of high interest to Turkey.
The resolution asks for providing financial aid to countries hosting Syrian refugees and it condemns the Syrian army's firing artillery shells to neighboring countries which resulted in the death of the citizens of neighboring countries and Syrians.
The UN resolution underlined that Syrian regime's attitude violated international laws and was a threat to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of neighboring countries. It also called on the Syrian government to respect the sovereignty of neighboring countries.
