Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal met Friday with Germany’s newly appointed Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Lviv, where he urged continued support from Berlin and the timely implementation of the next round of EU sanctions against Russia.
Shmyhal wrote on X that he welcomed Wadephul’s appointment and expressed hope for ongoing cooperation with the new German government.
He underlined the importance of Germany’s role within the EU, particularly regarding sanctions. “We expect the 17th package of EU sanctions to be implemented soon,” he noted.
Shmyhal thanked German businesses operating in Ukraine and encouraged future investment in the country’s reconstruction.
He acknowledged Germany’s contributions in military, financial and humanitarian fields, and expressed an appreciation for public support from the German population.
