Hakan Fidan, Yvette Cooper discuss bilateral ties, regional developments in phone call, sources say

ISTANBUL
Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Monday congratulated Yvette Cooper for assuming the charge as UK's new foreign secretary, Turkish Foreign Ministry sources said.
Fidan and Cooper discussed over the phone the bilateral agenda, including the schedule of upcoming high-level visits between Türkiye and the UK, and exchanged views on key issues such as trade, defense, and the fight against terrorism.
They also addressed efforts to establish peace between Ukraine and Russia, as well as the latest developments in the Middle East.
Cooper succeeded David Lammy as foreign secretary after the latter was appointed deputy prime minister, replacing Angela Rayner.
Rayner quit as deputy prime minister and housing secretary after an independent ethics investigation found she had failed to pay enough stamp duty on a flat she bought in May.
