A Pakistani court on Monday acquitted the country’s former military ruler Pervez Musharraf in the murder case of a veteran politician who was killed during a 2006 military operation.
A court in Quetta, the capital of the southwestern province of Balochistan, also exonerated two other former high-ranking officials in the murder case of Nawab Akbar Bugti, a former governor and the chief minister of Balochistan.
The court rejected a request by Bugti’s family to exhume his body in order to confirm that the remains were his.
Musharraf, who ruled Pakistan from 1999 to 2008, is also a defendant in a number of other high-profile cases, including the murder of Islamabad’s Red Mosque imam Ghazi Abdul Rahseed and his wife.
He has also been charged in the murder case of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
