Muslim Brotherhood deputy supreme leader Khairat el-Shater has been arrested, a security source told the Anadolu Agency.
Several senior leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood and its Freedom and Justice Party have been arrested in the past two days.
The crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood and its FJP came shortly after Egyptian military chief and Defense Minister Abdel Fatah al-Sisi announced Wednesday that the constitutional court head will serve as interim president until early presidential elections are held.
The roadmap for the future of Egypt also included temporarily suspending the constitution, forming a coalition government of technocrats and holding early presidential elections.
