Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Monday said EU's decision to lift the arms embargo on the Syrian opposition would threaten the security of Iraq.
Maliki expressed his concerns over EU's decision in a written statement released by the Iraqi Prime Ministry.
"Iraq is concerned over the rising tension and increasing violence in the region. Arms may infiltrate into Iraq due to the relations between terrorists on two sides of the border and Al-Qaeda and Al-Nusra," Maliki said.
The European Union had agreed to bring to an end the arms embargo on the Syrian opposition and to maintain other sanctions on Syria, at the EU foreign ministers meeting in Brussels on May 28.
