BERLIN
German foreign minister, referring to an Egyptian judge's decision on Tuesday to sentence 528 supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood to death, has said "it is not the right course for Egypt".
In a joint press conference with his Qatari counterpart, Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah, in Berlin, Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that Germany wants to see Egypt advance in democracy and the rule of law.
Egypt's military-backed authorities have launched a massive crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood, which propelled Morsi to power in 2012 polls, since his ouster last July and in the almost nine months since, thousands of the group's members and sympathizers have been arrested.
