CAIRO
Pro-democracy activists on Wednesday staged a series of protests in different parts of Egypt in response to calls by the National Alliance for the Defense of Legitimacy.
The alliance had earlier called on pro-democracy activists and supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi to stage weeklong protests under the banner, "The people complete their revolution."
In the Nile Delta province of Sharqiya, activists staged demonstrations in three different areas, including the village of Al-Adwa, the ousted president's hometown.
Protesters raised the four-fingered Rabaa Sign, which commemorates hundreds of pro-Morsi demonstrators killed during the dispersal last summer of two pro-Morsi sit-ins in Cairo and Giza.
They also raised photos of Morsi, who was ousted by the military last July following mass protests against his presidency.
Similar protests erupted in the coastal city of Alexandria, where demonstrators chanted slogans against Morsi's ouster by the army.
No clashes, however, were reported between demonstrators and police. Nor were their reports of arrests.
Morsi's supporters have staged protests on almost a daily basis since his July 3 ouster.
