IRBIL, Iraq
The Iraqi Kurdistan Parliament has appointed incumbent Prime Minister, Nechirwan Barzani as the prime minister of the eighth Kurdistan Regional Government Tuesday.
The Parliament voted 99 to 1 to re-appoint Barzani, deputy chairman of Kurdistan Democratic Party, to head the upcoming new government.
Kubat Talabani from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, with 78 votes, has been appointed as the deputy prime minister.
Parliament Speaker Yousif Mohammed said that the proposal will be sent to Masoud Barzani, the President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region for approval.
The eighth government is expected to be announced once Barzani appoints his cabinet of 19 ministers, a process which could take a month.
Disputes among parties following the general elections in September 2013 has delayed the formation of a new regional government. For the first time, a big coalition government of all political parties will be formed under the initiative of the winning Kurdistan Democratic Party.
