A Tunisian man has named his new coffee shop after a well-known public square in Cairo to express what he describes as "solidarity with the Egyptian people."
Mohamed al-Hadi chose to name his new café "Rabaa al-Adawiya" after the square of the same name in eastern Cairo, where hundreds of supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi were killed last August when security forces forcibly dispersed their weeks-long sit-in.
"This is the simplest way to express solidarity with the martyrs who fell in the square last summer," al-Hadi told Anadolu Agency.
The Rabaa massacre has reverberated across the region – and the globe – with supporters flashing the now-famous "Rabaa salute" to express their sympathy with the tragedy's victims.
In the middle of his new café, al-Hadi has hung a large, yellow flag bearing the black four-fingered symbol.
He stressed, however, that his choice of "Rabaa al-Adawiya" as the name of his coffee shop reflected his feelings of sympathy for the victims and "has nothing at all to do with politics."
