BAGHDAD
At least 17 Iraqis were killed and 28 others injured in a series of separate attacks acrossIraq on Sunday and Monday, a security source said.
According to the source, a booby-trapped car explosion targeting a site of the pro-government Al-Sahwa militiamen in central Baiji town, Saladin province, on Sunday left nine militiamen killed and 24 other people injured, including four civilians and a child who happened to be passing by at the time of the explosion.
Early on Monday, militants from the Al-Qaeda-linked Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) movement launched an attack against a camp of the Iraq army's 2nd Infantry Division in northern Mosul.
An ensuing battle left three ISIL militants dead, while their vehicle was set on fire, the source said.
He added that violent confrontations erupted on Sunday in northeastern Samarra between unidentified militants and Al-Sahwa militiamen, leaving four Al-Sahwa militiamen dead.
On Sunday also, an attack by unidentified militants on a police station in southwestern Kirkuk left a police officer dead and four other policemen injured.
The attack came hard upon the heels of a major security operation in southern and southwestern Kirkuk.
The operation caused the killing of a number of ISIL militants and the destruction of ten vehicles as well as training camps belonging to the militant movement, security sources said.
Areas in southern and southwestern Kirkuk are plagued by security problems, being the sites of repeated attacks by militant groups against security personnel.
