ISTANBUL

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday received from Iranian authorities seven Emiratis and two Egyptians, who had been held in Iran since late January, the UAE Foreign Ministry said.

“The UAE received the individuals, who were held captive by Iran since the end of January 2019 following a fishing trip in the Arabian Gulf waters,” the UAE’s official news agency (WAM) quoted the ministry’s statement as saying.

The captives were released into the care of the UAE Coast Guard in coordination with the UAE Foreign Ministry.
