Türkiye’s ambassador to Syria welcomes implementation of April 1 agreement in Aleppo
Nuh Yilmaz highlights importance of terrorist organization YPG/SDF's withdrawal for peace and calm
ISTANBUL
Türkiye’s Ambassador to Damascus Nuh Yilmaz said on Friday that it is encouraging to see the April 1 agreement finally being implemented in Aleppo, Syria.
“It is encouraging to see that the April 1 agreement, which aims for peace and calm in Aleppo, is finally being implemented, albeit late and with difficulty,” Yilmaz said in a post on US social media company X.
Referring to the deal reached last year between the Syrian administration and the terrorist organization YPG/SDF on the group’s withdrawal from Aleppo’s Sheikh Maksoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods, Yilmaz said: “Peace, unity and stability will carry us toward a better future.”
The terror group YPG/SDF has been launching attacks on numerous locations in Aleppo from areas it occupies since Dec. 6.
The Syrian army shelled YPG/SDF positions in Aleppo in retaliation for the attacks that killed at least nine civilians and injured dozens.
Last March, the Syrian presidency announced the signing of an accord for the YPG/SDF’s integration into state institutions, reaffirming the country's territorial unity and rejecting any attempts at division.
But in the months since, authorities say, the terrorist group has not shown any efforts to meet the terms of the agreement.
The Syrian government has intensified efforts to maintain security across the country since the ouster of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on Dec. 8, 2024, after 24 years in power.
